EARLYACT
CLUB KICKS-OFF AT COLUMBUS SCHOOL
Coinciding
with the start of American Education Week, a new Community Service
for Kids was kicked off on November 15th at Christopher Columbus Elementary
School in Utica, NY.
One
of the goals of EarlyAct is to "ensure that all students learn to
use their minds well so that they will be prepared for responsible
citizenship." This in turn will lead to effective leadership that
will improve the quality of life of schools, local, and global communities.
EarlyAct
is a school-wide service club for elementary students from ages 5
to 13, sponsored by the Utica Rotary Club of Rotary International's
District 7150. Through EarlyAct, students learn to take responsibility
for real-life problems and realize the significant impact of their
involvement. The EarlyAct Club, which will meet twice monthly, will
carry out three service projects annually -- one for their school,
one for their community, and one that will further international understanding.
In attendance
at the inaugural event were Utica Superintendent Rotarian Dan Lowengard,
Columbus Principal Rotarian Karen Kunkel, Rotary sponsors: Chair Don
St. Louis, committee members Marlene Brown & Mike VanStrander.
URC members, DG Herb Jerry, DGE Ward Vuillemot, WKTV and WUTR.
This was
the beginning of yet another successful local event, one that is utilizing
the greatest natural resource we have -- our children -- in a worthy
venture that will positively change their world and ours. For further
information, contact Chairman Donald
St. Louis.
