OCT NEWS: The New Hartford Rotary Club invites everyone, Rotarians and Non-Rotarians alike, to attend their Annual Christmas Benefit Auction. All fund raised during this auction are returned to the local community to organizations like the Hope House, YWCA Hall House, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Crisis Pregnancy Center, New Hartford Senior Citizens Center, just to name a few. Michael Knapp of Knapp Auctions will auction off many fine gifts, including advertising packages from local TV and radio stations.

The Christmas Benefit raised over $7,000 last year thanks to the support of the community. This year, our goal is $8,000!!! We are always looking for donations for this very worthy cause. If you or your business would like to donate a gift, contact Chairperson Mark Wilkins at 738-0733 (h) or 734-2227 (w).

This is an excellent opportunity to get a head start on your Christmas shopping without the hassle of long lines and large crowds, and enjoy the warm fellowship of your fellow Rotarians and neighbors. So mark your calendars now and plan to join us on December 1st at Alfredo's.

SEPT NEWS: Since some clubs are already making Christmas announcements, we may as well jump on the wagon and alert everyone to our annual Christmas Auction that has been held as long as I can remember. It will be on Wednesday, December 1st. We're beginning the search for 'gifts' to be auctioned for community and foundation funds. Thanks for all the hard work.

We are hosting a Belgium student, David DiMarco. He is currently staying with the Cortrights in New Hartford near Sauquoit. Adirondack Foothills Rotary Club and Sauquoit Rotary Club are also hosting students from Belgium, who may want to make contact with David.

David is a highly intelligent fellow, very mature, and is dying to go fly-fishing or hunting. I have experienced his company twice, and whenever I go to his host family's home, he is tuned in to the Outdoor channel via satelite. He has all the fishing gear with him, so all he needs is a friendly Rotarian to escort him. The Cortrights are planning to take him to the Auasble River later this fall.

Currently he is an outdoorsman trapped indoors; so anyone willing to have him tag along, please contact his host family, the Cortrights. I'm sure he could teach a thing or two to any willing companion about fishing. David is from Belgium, speaks French and understands English well. E-mail President Craig Pugh for Cortright's or David's E-mail address.

AUG NEWS: District Governor Herb Jerry visited on 8/4/99. AND District Newsletter Editor Marlene Brown and Rotarian Printer Pat Huther unveiled the first issue of Credo, the District Newsletter.

News - we've found a host family for David Di Marco from Belgium. David will be with VP Les and Ylva Cortright. Our gracious appreciation for the Cortrights in sponsoring their sixth Youth Exchange Student.

President Craig Pugh with Past President Jim Cook

JULY NEWS: Our congratulations go out to Diane Currier as the newest recipient of the Paul Harris Award. Diane is a past president and active in the Youth Exchange Program, one of the most challenging of all the undertakings by a club member. We also honored her with a proclomation from our County Executive, Ralph Eannace, making June 30. 1999, Diane Currier Day in Oneida County.

Our most honored member, George Crockett, was presented with the R.I. Service Above Self Award, having " demonstrated exemplary humanitarian service, in any form and at any level, with emphasis on personal volunteer efforts in helping others through Rotary. This is R.I.'s Highest honor for individual Rotarians." It goes without saying how much George is thought of by our New Hartford Club.
