Oswego Rotary
was pleased to host 26 wonderful youth exchange students at our
annual Exchange Weekend, December 2-5. The students participated
in a full weekend of activities after arriving in Oswego Thursday
evening.
On Friday,
the students attended elementary schools in the Oswego City School
District to talk about their home countries with the elementary
students. That night, they were guests at the Oswego State University
vs. Genesso Hockey Game.
On Saturday,
the students toured the Scriba Volunteer Fire Department where they
tried on firefighter turnout gear and explored the trucks and other
equipment. They were then hosted by St. Luke Nursing Home where
they ate lunch and visited with the residents.
To finish
the afternon, the students were treated to an exciting ride aboard
the Station Oswego U.S. Coast Guard patrol boat (in survival suits)
as they toured Oswego Harbor. Saturday night the students attended
a party hosted by the Hutchinson's.
The students
returned home Sunday afternoon after spending the morning with their
weekend host familes. Both students and host families agreed the
weekend was great!

Mark and
all our Rotary Friends in Kenya. GREAT NEWS! Oswego Rotary heard
from ROTARY INTERNATIONAL and Rotary International wants to profile
ORBIT in "The Rotarian
Magazine." What a great opportunity for our "International Literacy"
reach across the sea to typify the strength of Rotary's commitment
to global literacy.
Oswego's
ready to go! We're hoping for a message from Mr. Aboo at the Mombassa
Rotary Club with the in-country delivery details soon. This is a
great opportunity for both clubs! Mark, thanks for your coordination
efforts.
Best, Mike

HABITAT
FOR HUMANITY-KENYA-For Mark Hinrichs
Dear Rotary
Friends - Our book collection efforts in the USA are
underway and we are aiming at effecting transfers soon
via USAF/NY Air National Guard resources. I am uncertain
of any delays imposed by the Balkan/Kosovo Crisis, but we
are pressing on toward our goal.
The reason we
wanted to partner with a Kenya-based Rotary Club is to
avoid any "customs duty problems" and to allow our Rotary
4-Way Test to dictate and direct the pipeline from the
USA to Kenya to the School Children.
We have Mark
Hinrichs, a past-year Oswego Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar
candidate, already in Kenya. Mark has agreed to act as
liasion for Oswego Rotary and with the Mombassa Club or
any club your District leadership directs.
By this
message, I am asking Mark to make direct contact with you
and to help facilitate the Kenya-side ORBIT effort. We
would hope you would lend Mark every Rotary assistance to
help this become a successful partnership.
Thanks for you quick response
and partnership. Best regards, Mike Brower, President, Oswego Rotary
Club
