Sunrise Charter "Thank You"
October 21, 2003
Dear Fellow Rotarians:
The Skaneateles Sunrise Rotary
Club thanks you and your Rotary Club for supporting us with your good
wishes and kind gifts on the occasion of our Charter Dinner Celebration
on October 2. The event was an unqualified success! Everyone -- over
160 people from far and wide -- had a great time. Our club was ushered
into the Rotary family with great fellowship. Because of our fellow
Rotarians' generosity, our new club is now equipped with the necessary
Rotary resources, plus even some money in the bank, to perform our
important mission of "Service Above Self."
In early 2002, the provisional
Skaneateles Sunrise Rotary Club was created. Over the next year and
a half, it grew to 22 members, all the while performing community
service and conducting itself as much as possible like a "real" Rotary
Club. Then on June 18, 2003, the Skaneateles Sunrise Rotary Club no
longer was provisional - we received our charter from Rotary International.
This would not have happened without the invaluable guidance of Skaneateles'
evening Rotary Club, its support committee, and our District Coordinator,
Ward Vuillemot. Those who attended our Celebration witnessed probably
a first in Rotary history: the bestowing of the "Bulldozer Award."
Ward thoroughly deserved it
for being the major driving force in clearing the path for the formation
of the Skaneateles Sunrise Rotary Club. Of course, many people have
played valuable roles in this achievement. We certainly appreciate
everything everyone has done to enable the Skaneateles community to
now claim about 75 Rotarians. During formation and since, our morning
club has been active in several community service efforts, such as
regularly helping at the Food Pantry and clearing trails on the Federal
Farm property, among others. We look forward to serving our community
in many ways for years to come. For instance, we are resurrecting
and organizing a Skaneateles "WinterFest" for January 30 and 31, 2004,
with fun activities for all ages. This event fell by the wayside many
years ago. Again, thank you all for helping to make our new club possible.
And, we request your continued guidance and support as we weave our
way into the fabric of Rotary.
Very truly yours, Rhett L.
Weiss, Esq. President Skaneateles Sunrise Rotary Club
Skaneateles
Hosts a Second Rotary Club
On
June 18th, 2003, Rotary International chartered a second Rotary club
in Skaneateles, known as The Skaneateles Sunrise Rotary. This club
meets at 7 AM, each Thursday morning at the Skaneateles Community
Center, and offers an opportunity for community members who are unable
to make the evening meeting to service their community through Rotary
in a morning venue. The members of both the Skaneateles Rotary Club
and the Skaneateles Sunrise Club can be very proud of their accomplishment
in providing their community with an additional 22 Rotarians, and
an alternate venue of participating in “Service Above Self”. It’s
been 18 months of preparation, planning, work and fun by both clubs
to make this happen. Past Skaneateles evening club Pres. John O’Sullivan,
and current Skan. Pres. Joe Rodgers, their support team, and District
representative, Past District Governor, Ward Vuillemot supplied the
guidance and support to Skaneateles Sunrise Club president Doug Hill
and his dedicated and hard working organizational team to accomplish
the “magic of it all”. Congratulations! The two clubs are planning
a gala “Charter Celebration” on Thursday, October 2rd, at The Welch
