District 7150 4-Way Speech Contest

D7150 Speech Contest Criteria

We're Beginning a District-wide Speech Contest: Eligible students of schools within the communities of the 46 Rotary Clubs of District 7150 are encouraged to enter the contest.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE OR INELIGIBLE TO COMPETE?
1. Any High School student.
2. Any immediate family member of a Rotarian is not eligible.

RULES OF CONTEST
1. Subject: Applying the theme in everyday relationships with other people.
2. Delivery: A written copy of the speech will be presented prior to the presentation. The speech contestant may refer to the speech during its presentation, but should
not be reading the speech word for word, nor should it be completely memorized.
3. Length of Speech: The speech should be no longer than 5 minutes. Penalty points will be added if the speech runs over this time limit.
4. Speech Content: The speech given by each contestant must be original in content and related to the importance of applying the theme in one's everyday life.
5. Language: the speech should be presented in English.

STATEMENT OF THE THEMERotary International’s 'The 4-Way Test' (1st - Is it the truth? 2nd - Is it fair to all concerned? 3rd - Will it build good will & better friendships? 4th - Will it be beneficial to all concerned?).

TIME FRAME
Applications Due: March 31, 2008

Round #1: Compete by March 31 against other local contestants at the local Rotary Club.

Round #2: Compete by April 15 against round #1 winners from 3 or 4 Rotary clubs - Prize $100.00

Round #3: Compete against four other round #2 winners Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the District Membership Seminar- Prize - $200.00

Round #4: Compete against other round #3 winners at the Foundation Dinner Celebration, May 29th, 2008 for the Grand Prize - $300.00, where they will be presented Certificates by R.I. Foundation Trustee Chair, Dr. Robert Scott

Final Presentation: Grand Prize Winner delivers their speech at the Changing of the Guard Dinner, June 23rd, where top three winners will each be presented their checks by Rotary International President Wilf Wilkinson
