Andrea Ives

..AAndrea is a lifetime resident of Baldwinsville, NY. She graduated from C.W. Baker High School, then earned an AA in Liberal Arts from Auburn Community College, and a BA in English Literature from SUNY at Stony Brook, Long Island. She has taken graduate courses in English at SUNY at Oswego and Syracuse University.

Andrea is owner and principal Design Consultant at Andrean Interiors, a commercial and residential interior design firm. She currently teaches Floral Design in the Adult Continuing Education program at Onondaga-Cayuga- Madison BOCES. Previously, she owned and managed Hilltop Florist and Gardens in her hometown for ten years. Prior to her foray into the world of retail, she managed the U.S. Programs office of Laubach Literacy International in Syracuse, and had taught high school English in Jordan-Elbridge. When she first graduated from college, she was Assistant Personnel Director for the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra.

A dedicated volunteer, Andrea became a literacy tutor in 1973 and has worked with non-readers ever since. She currently tutors a Hindu priest from India, and a young woman from China. She is Public Relations Chair and Steering Committee member of The Learning Place, and a member of the Rotary District 7150 Literacy Committee. Andrea was a Triangle Girl in high school, and then joined the Order of the Eastern Star, where she was Worthy Matron of the Baldwinsville Chapter in 1981. She is past president of the Beauchamp Historical Club of Baldwinsville, and past Board Member and Vice-President of the Greater Baldwinsville Chamber of Commerce. Andrea has recently joined Toastmasters International, and is working on her certification as a public speaker. She also belongs to the Syracuse Cinephile Society.

Andrea joined the Rotary Club of Baldwinsville in 1992, and has been a Board member since 1993, serving as Chairman for each of the Four Avenues of Service. She was Youth Exchange Officer for three years, and edited the newsletter for 1999-2000. She was club president in 1998-99 and is currently President of the Baldwinsville Rotary Foundation. She is a Paul Harris Fellow and a Benefactor. Andrea has had seven years of perfect attendance. She is currently Assistant Governor for Area 4 of District 7150. She recently edited the District Literacy Committee's cookbook, "EZ Cook."

Andrea and her husband Don have been married 13 years. (They met when Don came to work in her florist shop.) They had a daughter Julia, and they currently live with two Scottish Terriers (Cavendish and Chaucer) and a cat (Jules). They enjoy traveling, dancing, reading, walking, old movies, and Freecell, Andrea loves crossword puzzles and plays the piano; her husband cultivates Bonsai trees and is an avid gardener. In addition, Don is currently Lieutenant Governor of the N.Y. District of Optimist International, so Service Above Self is very much a part of their lives.
