A resident of Canastota since 1976, Jerry is a native of Wooster,
OH, where he grew up on a dairy and cage layer farm and was a
truck driver in the family trucking business. During his high
school days he was a farm city exchange student and was a national
Izaak Walton Representative for the State of Ohio, responsible
for organizing new high school clubs through out the state of
Ohio.
Jerry received
his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Marketing from Ohio State
University with a minor in Statistics. He was a member of Alpha
Gamma Signa and its treasurer as well as a member of the Economics
Club, Farm Bureau, 4 - H, and Youth Group. As a college intern,
he worked for the Statistical Reporting Service of the US Department
of Agriculture in the developing of their objective counts program.
He then moved
to Boston, where he implemented the objective count program for
all New England. While in Boston, he did graduate work at Northeastern
University and was a Charter Member of the Arlington Jaycees.
With a job transfer to Schenectady in the late 60's, he then became
Treasurer and President of the Schenectady Jaycees, before moving
on to District President, National Director, and Treasurer of
the state organization and then New York State Jaycee president
in 1975-76, where he had the opportunity to meet with President
Gerald Ford in the White House.
In 1970, he joined
American Express Financial Advisors in their Albany office. During
his American Express career he spent five years working as a compliance
representative reporting to their home office in Minneapolis,
Minnesota. He has been a District Manager, an Intern Vice President
in Utica, and an OSJ Branch from it's initiation in March 2000
though March 2003. During each of these three years, his branch
managing $1.5 Billion in assets was recognized as one of the top
fifty in the nation each year.
Professionally,
he has completed graduate work at Union College, University of
Florida and the American College. He is a Chartered Life Underwriter
(CLU), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), and Certified Financial
Planner (CFP) and is licensed in 26 states. He carries the license
of General Securities Principal and is licensed with the NASD.
His licenses include Series 7, 24, 63, 65, life, accident and
health. He is a member of the Financial Planning Association and
the Society of Financial Services Professionals. His specialties
are farm, small business, and estate planning.
Locally he is
finance chairman for the United Church of Canastota and serves
as director for the following, Community Chest of Canastota, Northern
Madison County Developing Corporation and Mid York American Lung
Association. He has served as a Rotarian for the past 19 years.
He is past President of the Canastota Rotary Club, Assistant Governor
for Area 3 (1999-2002) and District Foundation Chair.
He and his wife
Mary Lou reside in Canastota, sons Craig in Philadelphia, PA,
John in Canastota, and Matthew in Fayetteville, and a daughter
Vonda in Richmond, VA.
