Carol Anthony, District Governor
2006-2007
Carol is a native of Chittenango
where she was raised in the Anthony family homestead, built in
1903. She has traced her roots back to King Edward I of England,
where she is a direct descendant of Lady Godiva and 7 generations
back with her ancestors from Scotland. She is also a descendent
of Benedict Arnold, but the family doesn’t talk about it.
The families were original colonists arriving in Massachusetts
in 1673, fought in the Revolutionary War, then migrated to New
York in 1808. The genealogy of her family made her a member of
The Daughters of the American Colonists and Daughters of the American
Revolution. Her grandmother founded the original Canteen Restaurant
in Chittenango in 1909 and her father and mother continued on
in the family restaurant through 1958.
After graduating from college,
Carol worked as a staff nurse for Syracuse Gastro. Assoc. for
25 years, and Internist Assoc. for 2 years. She opened a medical
transcription company of nurses in 1995. The company has grown
to 43 nurses. Her goal is to give nurses an opportunity to utilize
their education and be able to work from home to care for their
young children or elderly parents.
She has been a member of the CNY
GI Nurses Assoc., National GI Nurses Assoc., The American Assoc.
of Medical Transcription, the Professional Women’s Assoc.
in Syracuse, Syracuse Chamber of Commerce, Town of Sullivan Chamber
of Commerce, and the Syracuse Corinthian Club. Her volunteer experiences
are with the American Cancer Society, Muscular Dystrophy, American
Heart Assoc., and the American Red Cross. Activities have included:
soccer coach, Founding Chairman of the J & J’s Select
Choir 25 year alumni reunion, Village Board Parks and Recreation,
Oz Fest judge, Board of Education Drug Task Force, and Board of
Elections inspector. She was Worthy Matron in 1973 and 1996 of
Eastern Star, Chittenango Chapter and elected to District Deputy
Grand Matron for New York in Cortland-Madison Districts in 1993
overseeing 14 chapters. She is a member of the First Presbyterian
Church for 44 years, an ordained Ruling Elder, former Superintendent
of Sunday Schools, Chairman of Board of the Pre-K program, and
was a Sunday School teacher for 24 years.
Carol joined the Chittenango Rotary
Club in 1998, was President in 1999-2000, District Club Service
Chair from 2000 to 2002, Assistant Governor in Area 4 from 2002-2005.
She was nominated for District Governor in 2003. She has completed
Parts I, II, III, Graduate and Facilitator courses of Rotary Leadership
Institute, is a Paul Harris Fellow +1 and a Foundation Benefactor.
She and her daughter, Tiffany, reside in Chittenango. In her spare
time, she loves to golf, collect antique trains and play the piano.
