James J. Gascon

District Governor, 2011-2012

Personal History

James J. Gascon is a 1979 graduate of Marcellus High School. He obtained his B.A. degree Magna Cum Laude from Cortland State College and his law degree from Albany Law School in 1986. Jim is a partner in the Syracuse law firm of Costello, Cooney & Fearon, P.L.L.C. Jim has an active general law practice. He specializes in civil personal injury and trial work. He also represents the Town of Marcellus.

Jim married his wife Debra in 1991. They have three children; Emily (16), Matthew (14) and Tyler (8). They live in Marcellus, New York.

Rotary History

Jim’s Rotary history began when he joined the Eastwood Rotary Club on February 1, 1990. Since joining Rotary, Jim has been active at both the Club and District levels. Jim was President of the Eastwood Club during the 1997-1998 Rotary year. He served as the President of the Eastwood Foundation 1999-2000. In 2002 Jim was honored by the Eastwood Club as its Rotarian of the Year.

Jim and Debbie have been active in the Youth Exchange program as well. They have hosted three Youth Exchange students. They hosted Kristen Banks from Australia (1999), Christina Castangia from Sardinia, Italy (2004) and Laura Leiflander from Germany (200*).
Jim’s accomplishments in Rotary include receipt of the Rotary International Four Avenues of Service Award in 1999. He has received both the District International Service Award as well as the Service Above Self Award. Jim is a three time Paul Harris Fellow and is a RI Foundation Benefactor.

In 2003 Jim transferred his membership to the Marcellus Rotary Club. Jim served as President of the Marcellus Rotary Club in 2005-2006. Jim is currently the Chair of the District “Gift of Vision” program and the Dominican Republic Water Project. He served as Assistant Governor for Area 10 for the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 Rotary year.
