Bruce P. Frassinelli
....District Governor Nominee 2001-2002 Bruce P. Frassinelli of Oswego recently retired as publisher and editor of The Palladium-Times, Oswego County's only daily newspaper. Bruce was a newspaper journalist for more than 32 years, the last seven in Oswego. Before that he had spent 25 years in a variety of capacities at The Express in Easton, Pa.

...When promoted to publisher and editor of The Palladium-Times, he was the general manager of The Express. Bruce was a high school teacher and part-time college faculty member before becoming the program, news and sports director of radio station WVPO, Stroudsburg, Pa., a position he had for three years.

Bruce has been a Rotarian for seven years. He is a past president of the Oswego Rotary Club. He also served as club secretary from 1994-95 when he was elected second vice president. He moved up to first vice president in 1996-97 and president in 1997-98.

A Paul Harris Fellow, Bruce is a member of the district's Administrative Procedures/Resolutions, Finance, Literacy, Nominating and Technology committees and a member of the Grants Subcommittee. He is a member of the Oswego Rotary Club's Board of Directors and coordinator of the Regional Finals of the National Spelling Bee, a jointly sponsored competition of the Oswego Rotary Club and The Palladium-Times. Bruce had been county coordinator of National Make A Difference Day, in which the Oswego Rotary Club plays a prominent role.

Bruce is a native of Summit Hill, Pa. He earned his bachelor's degree with a French major and a master of arts degree in political science, both from East Stroudsburg (Pa.) University. He is an adjunct member of the Oswego State University faculty where he teaches courses in broadcast and print journalism. He also is a member and former chair of the board of directors of Oswego County Savings Bank.

In addition to his Rotary involvement, Bruce is secretary of the Oswego Opera Theatre's Board of Directors. A member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board and its Steering Committee, he also is a charter member of the steering committee and board of directors of Take Charge Inc., a grassroots community group formed in 1995 to deal with the problems associated with underage drinking and substance abuse.

Bruce also is a member of a number of professional groups including the American Society of Newspaper Editors, the New York State Association of Associated Press Managing Editors and the New York State Publishers Association and its Foundation's Board of Directors. He served as president of the Pennsylvania Associated Press Managing Editors Association in 1991.

While editor of The Express in Easton, Pa., his paper was chosen as one of the 14 best small-city newspapers in the United States. His series of articles in 1972 -- the Rape of the Poconos, an expose of land-abuse developments in that resort region of Pennsylvania -- earned him a Pulitzer Prize nomination. Bruce has been a frequent moderator of community events, such as the 1995 Oswego mayoral forum and a 1994 series on educational reform in the Oswego City School District.

Named to Who's Who in the East every year since 1994, Bruce was also named to Who's Who in Communications in 1998. He was named Optimist of the Year in 1969 by the Optimist Club of the Stroudsburgs, and, that same year, the Pocono Mountains Jaycees named him winner of the Distinguished Service Award. Bruce and his wife, Marie, are the parents of five children and also have seven grandchildren.
