27 March 2001 Please note: Effective 1 July 2000, The Rotary Foundation will no longer accept disaster relief contributions. Therefore, donations received by The Rotary Foundation after that date will not be eligible for Paul Harris Fellow credit and donors from the United States and Canada will no longer receive a tax receipt. Rotarians, clubs, and districts that wish to respond to those in need may continue to do so by sending their contributions directly to the Rotary district experiencing the disaster. to top 22 February 2001 Severe winter weather following a terrible summer drought is causing tremendous amounts of damage throughout Mongolia. More than 600,000 animals have died, and as residents rely on livestock as their source of income and nourishment, many are suffering greatly from the loss. The governor of District 3450 is seeking international support to help these victims survive. To support relief efforts, contributions can be made payable directly to "Rotary International District 3450 - Disaster Relief", Account #018-699-1-18208-7-00 and sent to CITIC Ka Wah Bank, Limited, Queen's Road Central, Hong Kong, Hong Kong Sar, People's Republic of China. Districts in other countries are also encouraged to utilize SHARE District Designated Funds allocated to the Humanitarian Programs category for the Rotary year 2000-2001 (maximum of US $10,000). To do this, district governors must submit a signed authorization to Erin Hills, the SHARE Grants Coordinator in The Rotary Foundation (fax: 847-491-9364). Please note that all contributions for disaster relief are forwarded to the disaster relief account established by the districts and are appropriated at the discretion of the district governors. Rotarians in India have created a Web site to streamline worldwide Rotary efforts aimed at providing relief to the survivors of the recent earthquake in Gujarat state and rebuilding the cities razed by the disaster. Set up last week by Past RI Director Kalyan Banerjee, head of the Joint Action Task Force (JATF) which is coordinating relief efforts in Gujarat, the site at http://www.gujaratrebuild.org disseminates information about the disaster and facilitates fundraising efforts. The site features a list of Rotary contacts involved in the JATF and updates reports of Indians who have recently visited the affected areas. 2001 The residents of El Salvador are struggling to recover from a devastating earthquake that struck on 13 January. Hundreds were killed, thousands injured and more than 45,000 left homeless, fighting to survive. Emergency relief is needed to establish temporary housing, purchase food, and provide medical aid to these victims. To support relief efforts, contributions can be made payable directly to "Club Rotario, Comit? de Emergencia Terremoto" Account #7-34-51418-0 and sent to Scotia Bank, Col.
